The Alpine Union School District has participated in the San Diego Arts Network for six years. The San Diego Arts Network has enabled our district site administrators to participate in quality staff development experiences in the visual and performing arts. Now our site administrators have a better understanding of the arts and the importance of facilitating arts instruction in our classrooms.

2009-10 Program Highlights

• Standards-based sequential visual arts program for K-5 students from January – May
• Students exposed to art history and elements and principles of applied art through an exploration of techniques and materials based upon the artistic style and history of a specific grade level artist
• Pilot of extension of program in grades 6-8
• Arts projects are linked to specific areas of the Social Science curriculum

Strategic Plan

• District is exploring the option of expanding the opportunities available to our students through an arts magnet school
