2007-08 Program Highlights

• District Strategic Plan 2006-2011: Goal 1.2: Implement Visual and Performing Arts instruction to all students at every school site
• Formed VAPA committee. Members include representatives from all school sites, teachers, administrators, district superintendent, and community members.
• Created VAPA Coordinator position
• Developed Visual and Performing Arts five-year plan to implement arts instruction, one discipline per year. Music was first; currently working on visual art.
• Hired four music specialists
• Adopted and purchased standards-based K-6 music curriculum
• Developed yearlong music curriculum guide that utilizes both music specialists and classroom generalists. All students K-6 receive weekly instruction in music.
• In-serviced all K-6 classroom teachers on adopted music curriculum
• Brought in TCAP to provide additional training in music to a subset of teachers
• Offer all levels of band for grades 4-8 throughout district
• Offer choir for grades 4-8 throughout district
• Fallbrook Music Society is providing two music assemblies per grade.  Assemblies are grade-specific and linked to curriculum.
• Reintroduced drama elective at junior high level (grades 7-8)
• Junior high offers classes using Paxton Patterson Labs. Students can choose from different career opportunities including interior design, graphic design, architecture, fashion merchandising, and textiles.  Additionally, the classes provide small group rotation of hands-on workshops in ceramics, jewelry making, wood projects, painting, and welding and metal working.
