2010-2011    Julian Union High School Fine Arts Program Highlights

Visual Art – Four levels of instruction are offered to our high school students.  They include studio instruction in both 3-D and 2-D art projects that highlight the elements and principals of art. This year we produced sheet metal mobiles imitating Alexander Calder.

Our students in visual art study cave art, Egyptian art, explore the Renaissance extending through the Impressionist Artists and explore modern art such as Matisse and Chuck Close.

Julian High School has a strong drama program that includes dinner theatre productions and an annual musical produced in March.  Our Theatre Arts class emphasizes characterization, stage movement, vocal instruction and pantomime. In recent years, the drama program has integrated choral music into the curriculum, and has performed at community functions including the annual Christmas Tree Lighting in Julian.

Glee Club is an after school program that originated from students’ curiosity to develop musical talent and dance. They meet together weekly, playing the guitar and piano singing with the instructor.
