Other Information
Vista Unified School District, located in northern San Diego county, is a K-12 district with a population of over 25,000 students. The district currently has 13 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, 2 comprehensive high schools, 2 magnet schools and a charter school.

One of the magnet schools is Vista Academy of Visual and Performing Arts. Vista Academy is a K-8 school that uses an arts-integrated approach to learning. Through the support of arts resource teachers, Vista Academy staff members have been trained in teaching the visual and performing arts standards in addition to the other academic content standards. Students receive standards-based instruction starting in kindergarten through weekly lessons provided by arts resource teachers in addition to their classroom instructors.

Rodney Goldenberg, former principal of Vista Academy, started the school in 1992. His beliefs and extensive research have resulted in a school that allows children to learn in a creative and challenging way that provides standards-based instruction in the visual and performing arts. Each year we celebrate the successes of those students who would have failed in an environment that was not rich in the arts.
